More Stripping Hell

Stripping hell continues. Let’s review what we are stripping in our little house.

1. All of the Doug Fir beams – like 30 feet long and maybe 20 of them.

2. All of the mahogany trim and wood around the house. Yes, idiots covered it all in paint.

3. Concrete Block inside and outside the house. Yes, we are officially insane.

Beam stripping is simple, but not necessarily easy. We use the Paintshaver to rip the paint off and then run a belt sander over it. But, it sort of destroys your shoulders.

Mahogany stripping is comparatively easier. CitriStrip or SoyGel, but the CitriStrip is cheaper.

Concrete Block stripping is not so easy because of the millions of nooks na crannies in the block. And, it’s pretty soft, so anything too harsh sort of destroys the block. Exterior block stripping is rather fun. Break out the power washer and strip away.

Interior Paint Stripping is not fun. I can’t use the power washer because I don’t want to flood the house. And, I definitely would. Although, I’ve designed some crazy ways to build plastic rooms and harness the water in a kiddie pool. Who am I kidding? I’d totally flood the house.

So, apply stripper, apply plastic wrap and let it “cook”. Then, use a combination of small plastic and steel brushes and scrub like hell.

I want it all done. I’m sick of stripping.
